Buffelgrass

Bufflegrass, Cenchrus ciliaris, is an invasive species from the African Savana that is radically transforming the Sonoran desert. One interesting aspect of Buffelgrass is that the plants grow close enough together to create create devastating wildfires.

Invasive species almost always have negative effects on local ecosystems. The invasives replace native species and usually cannot be eaten by local wildlife.

The Southern Arizona Buffelgrass Coordination Center is a group dedicated to irradiating this invasive species.
